Pity Sex - Dark World [2012]

This is the follow up to the emo band from Ann Arbor’s self titled EP they released around this time last year. It just dropped a few days ago and I’m on my first listen through, but I can tell it’s a keeper. They play a nice, noisy, ’90s influenced style of emo/indie rock with male and female vocals.

  1. When You’re Around
  2. Dog Walk
  3. Hole Away
  4. Coca Cola
  5. Glue
  6. Flower Girl

состояние птиц [2011]

Screamo/post-metal from Russia. They have dark atmosphere, and a violinist, which is pretty sweet if you ask me.

BATCOMPUTER - Spring Is A Chorus Of Vomit; Everyone Rejoice! [2008]

Spacey, shoegaze-y emo from Annapolis, MD, featuring Justin and Tommy from Age Sixteen and members of Lilu Dallas. This band is truly one of a kind. I can’t find any song to stream other than their Mineral cover. Also, the track “Verdana” features Kyle Durfey from PBTT, so that’s pretty awesome.

  6. Arial Bold
  7. Times New Roman

The Brave Little Abacus - Okumay [2012]

The last release from The Brave Little Abacus (rip). If you haven’t heard this band, you need to because they’re one of the most unique bands I’ve ever heard. Experimental poppy emo/math-rock/whatever.

  1. For geOn (for Colin)
  2. 45 Minutes from “Somewhere Out There”
  3. Don’t Come Around Here No More (please)
  4. Introducing “Morrissey” (Ergs! Cover!)

Hopeless Raven - Brandnew Leaves [2010]

So, some random Japanese guy added me on facebook (I think because I liked a band’s post or something) and it turns out that he plays guitar in a really sweet emotive hardcore band. They have gorgeous chord progressions, cool leads, creative song writing, and and plenty of hardcore moments. They also break out some chugga chugga occasional, however they keep it really interesting and creative, so it’s pretty awesome.

  1. Brandnew Leaves
  2. Sedative
  3. Result In Cause
  4. Everlasting
  5. Filled With Water

The Wind-Up Bird - Whips [2003]

Solo project of Joseph Grimm, formerly of 3.33. Ambient/post-rock/drone. The track “This” samples an intimate phonecall and really showcases the drone aspect of this album. This album is really beautiful and powerful from start to finish.

  2. That I’ve
  3. Become
  4. This
  5. Monster
  6. I Love
  7. You
  8. A Lot

Followed By 37 Seconds of Happiness - s/t 7” [2007]

Swedish screamo. ‘nuff said. I couldn’t find any studio version songs to stream, but they have some live youtube videos that aren’t half bad quality. It’s better than nothing.

  1. End of Times
  2. Death of Oceans
  3. Monument
  4. Close Like Us

Carlton Banks - 4 Metros De Nieve En Verano [2009]

Mexican screamo with a band name that I’m honestly pretty jealous of.

  2. El Mundo Estella En Su Propio Dolor
  3. Roce de Viento
  4. Song for La Pandilla
